Dr. Julia Wright joined Dean Health Plan, Wisconsin’s largest HMO, in December 2014. As interim Chief Medical Officer, Dr Wright leads Quality and Care Management division with primary responsibilities over population health, quality, and value-based care. She has a strong interest is in provider collaboration to advance care transformation. As a Board Certified internist, she also practices hospital medicine at St Mary’s Hospital, Madison, WI.
Dr. Wright’s previous leadership positions include Chief Medical Officer of an independent health system in Wisconsin, with oversight for system quality, and for all employed and contracted medical groups. Her focus was on value-based care, quality improvement, physician alignment, and performance improvement. She served as Business Unit President on the executive team of Cogent, a large national healthcare management company, from 2010-2013.
Dr. Wright was formerly Professor and Division Chief, Hospital Medicine at the University of Wisconsin (UW). In this capacity she developed inpatient services across multiple service lines, started a new Division of Hospital Medicine, and exported these services to regional hospital partners.
Dr. Wright completed a post-graduate internal medicine residency at the University of Wisconsin after obtaining her medical degree at the University of Michigan and practiced traditional internal medicine for several years. She is a Senior Fellow of Hospitalist Medicine, Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and has extensive involvement in professional organizations and leadership areas. Her professional interests are in physician leadership development, population health, and continuous quality improvement.
