Dean Health Plan earns 4.5 out of 5 rating from NCQA

Sep 27, 2019

Dean Health Plan is proud to announce it has earned a 4.5 rating out of a possible 5 for its private (commercial) product from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA*) Private Health Insurance Plan Ratings 2019-2020. This makes Dean Health Plan one of the highest-rated health insurance plans in the nation.

Only three other private Wisconsin health plans received a 4.5 out of 5 and no Wisconsin plan received a higher rating. Fewer than 10% of the 438 private health plans received a 4.5 or 5
rating nationally.

Dean Health Plan’s Medicare Cost product received a rating of 4.5 out of 5 from NCQA’s Medicare Health Insurance Plan Ratings 2019–2020. This puts the Cost plan rating in the top 6% in the nation.

Dean Health Plan’s Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MAPD) product received a rating of 4 out of 5. Only four Medicare plans received a rating of 5 out of 5 nationally. A majority of those plans, 63%, scored lower than a 4 out of 5 for 2019-2020.

An overall Rating is publicly reported along with subcategory scores. Performance is measured across these three subcategories:
  1. Consumer Satisfaction: Includes the patient-reported experience of care, including experience with doctors, services and customer service (measures in the Consumer Satisfaction category). Data are gathered via the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®) for this category.
  2. Rates for Clinical Measures: Covering prevention measures and recommended care for certain conditions (treatment measures). Data for this category come from NCQA’s Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®).
  3. NCQA Accreditation Standards Score: The NCQA Accreditation surveys provide scores regarding a health plan’s health quality processes.
Rates for all commercial (private), Medicare, and Medicaid health plans can be found at http://healthinsuranceratings.ncqa.org/2019/Default.aspx. You can filter for the ratings in just one state, such as Wisconsin, or see plans compared across the nation.
