Golden Pears

Ingredients
4 medium pears
3 tablespoons sugar
½ teaspoon ground allspice


Directions
Peel, halve and core pears. Place sugar in a heavy saucepan and sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of water. Cook over medium heat without stirring until mixture reaches a golden brown caramel, approximately seven minutes.

Pour in ¼ cup water – be careful it will splatter. Add pears and allspice to pan, cover and simmer until the pears are tender, 10-15 minutes. Transfer pears with a slotted spoon to a serving dish. Raise heat and boil syrup for 1 minute. Pour syrup over pears and serve.
