  2. GLEAM, Art in a New Light: Take in art and nature at the Olbrich
    Botanical Garden’s fall exhibition
. GLEAM features sculptural art and light installations in the outdoor gardens by local artists and professional lighting designers. GLEAM will be viewable September 2 through October 30 during regular public daytime hours, as well as special evening hours from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Wednesday through Fridays. Tickets are $12 for adult nonmembers, $6 for child nonmembers, $10 for adult members and $5 for child members. 3. Mansion Hill East Historic Architecture Walking Tour: Learn about the history of Mansion Hill, the historic neighborhood of Madison’s wealthy and elite in the late 1800s. The tour begins on Saturday, September 5, in front of Edgewater’s Statehouse café at 11 a.m. and ends around 12:15 p.m. The tour costs $10 for adults, $5 for students and is free for Madison Trust for Historic Preservation members. After seeing the gorgeous historic architecture, the Edgewater invites attendees for a complimentary coffee, beer or wine.
  4. Saturday Science at Discovery: Science lovers will have a blast at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery over Labor Day weekend. Saturday Science at Discovery features fun exploration stations for the whole family. The theme on September 5 is “Bugs, Bugs and More Bugs,” which teaches kids about insect life cycles with engaging, interactive workplaces. The event, from 10 a.m. to noon, is free and open to the general public.
  5. Badger Superhero Run: A long weekend doesn’t mean you need to relax the whole time. Get active over the Labor Day holiday by participating in the Badger Superhero Run. The run, which raises funds for the Badger Childhood Cancer Network, aims to spread awareness of the impact of childhood cancer on local families and will help provide critical funds for those families. There are 10K and 5K options, as well as a 2 Mile Awareness Walk, the Kids’ Superhero Dash, a costume contest and Heroes vs. Villains Dodgeball. The event takes place on Saturday, September 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Keva Sports Center in Middleton.
