Fall Family Fun—Five Local Activities for the New Season

With the first official day of fall coming up next week, we’ve compiled our favorite seasonal activities—a range of local excursions including family festivals and local farms.

  1. REAP Festival: The Food for Thought Festival hosted by REAP, a local group concerned with food issues and dedicated to sustainable food, takes place during the Farmers’ Market tomorrow morning on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard off Capitol Square. The festival features local food, fun exhibitions, kids’ activities, raffle prizes and a chef showdown. Dean & St. Mary's are proud to sponsor this healthful event.

  2. Lodi Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch: The Lodi Corn Maze, featured on the Travel Channel’s list of top 10 mazes, is currently open for visitors. More fall fun, including caramel apples and kettle corn, farm animals, wagon rides and the pumpkin patch begins on September 27. Take the family for a day of wholesome farm fun, all while supporting the local community.

  3. Wisconsin Book Festival: The Wisconsin Book Festival features local and national authors from a variety of genres. Discover new voices at the Wisconsin People & Ideas Writing Contest Reading, attend performances, pick up books at the Friends of the Madison Public Library and the Friends of the UW Libraries book sales and check out some of the science programming at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery. You can even bring the kids to one of several programs in the children’s series, including an evening with young adult super author Lois Lowry.
