5 Places to Make Fall Memories

Celebrate fall this year by making new memories with your family. From old traditions like apple picking and hayrides, to new like trying cider brats or blending science and Halloween, we’ve created a list of local places you’ll reminisce about for years to come.

  1. Downtown Madison Family Halloween: Celebrate Halloween with the whole family on State Street and the Capitol Square. Fun activities include a hayride around the Square, musical theater at the Madison Children’s Museum, spooky crafts at the Madison Central Library and much, much more. Plus, there will be trick-or-treating at all these locations and several other businesses. Downtown Madison Family Halloween is Wednesday, October 29 from 3 to 6 pm.

  2. Appleberry Farm: Visit a local family-owned apple orchard and enjoy tons of autumn activities. Appleberry Farm is open 9–5 Friday through Sunday up until Halloween. The farm offers orchard tours, apple picking, a pumpkin patch, hayrides and cider brats—a unique twist on the traditional beer brat. Pick up fresh cider, special gifts, pies and decorations at the farm store to take a memory of fall family fun home with you.

  3. Beakers and Broomsticks Weekend: Keep the costumes out for one last weekend of Halloween excitement. The Madison Children’s Museum is hosting a Halloween blast all day Saturday and Sunday the first weekend in November. Beakers and Broomsticks features a Halloween concert for kids, creepy crawly fun with bugs and snakes, a bubble show and hands-on kids’ activities with engineers.

  4. Eugster’s Farm Fall Festival: Eugster’s Farm Market and Petting Zoo in Stoughton hosts several fall festivals every year, with one this weekend and next. Admission is less than $10 and includes a petting farm, haunted house, puppet shows, wagon rides, playgrounds, cow milking and more. Eugster’s offers many photo opportunities for the whole family, so you’ll always remember the fall festivities.

  5. Home Sweet Home: Last, but not least, there are plenty of memories to be made in your own home. Carve the pumpkins you brought back from the patch, bake Grandma’s favorite sugar cookie recipe, brew cider with your fresh-picked apples or make a fall family photo album with all the pictures you took.
