da Vinci® Prostatectomy
More and more patients are candidates for minimally invasive surgery, procedures that mean:
- Smaller incisions
- Less trauma to the body
- A faster recovery
The latest advancement in the operating room is the robot-assisted da Vinci® System, which allows Dean surgeons to operate with more dexterity in smaller openings than ever before.
Our surgeons use a 3D high-definition camera that is trained on the surgical site to see more precisely, and then they manipulate multiple robotic arms equipped with tiny 8-millimeter, remotely controlled instruments.
The da Vinci® System can be used for prostatectomies and other urologic procedures. We encourage you to play this brief patient education video to learn more about the da Vinci® System, and how it is used in a prostatectomy procedure performed at St. Mary's Hospital by Dean urologists.
