Pelvic Floor Disorders

Childbirth and other causes lead to weakening or damage of the pelvic floor supporting structures. The pelvic organs, bladder, vagina and bowel may descend through the vaginal opening leading to various symptoms.

  • Incontinence: loss of bladder or bowel control, leakage or urine or feces.

  • Prolapse: descent of pelvic organs; a bulge and/or pressure; 'dropped uterus, bladder, vagina or rectum.'

  • Emptying Disorders: difficulty urinating or moving bowels.

  • Pain: discomfort to the lower back, pelvis or bladder and/or urethra.
  • Overactive Bladder: frequent need to void, bladder pressure, urgency, urge incontinence (difficulty holding back urine when having the urge to urinate).

Treatment of Pelvic Floor Disorders

Surgery

When conditions are not effectively treated with conservative therapies, reconstructive surgery may be offered. Vaginal surgery leaves no external scars and lowers risk to abdominal organs. We offer minimally invasive procedures including robotic and laparoscopic surgery.
