What to Expect at Your Allergy and Immunology Appointment

When you visit a Dean Allergy and Immunology specialist:

  • You will help your doctor build your case history. You may be asked to fill out a questionnaire and provide as much information as possible about your symptoms, lifestyle habits, the environment you live, work and play in, and details about your medical and family background.
  • You will be asked how you are feeling and if you are taking any medications.
  • You may be asked to do a breathing test (pulmonary function testing).
  • You may be asked to have an X-ray of your lungs and sinuses.
  • You may be asked to do an allergy skin test.
  • Your doctor will work with you to choose the best treatment options for you. This will include fine-tuning the dosage of any medication that is prescribed, and monitoring its effectiveness.
  • Your doctor may refer you to another specialist if needed.
  • Our staff will help you find the information and resources you need to cope with your condition.
