Frequently Asked Questions

Who should have cosmetic surgery?

Cosmetic surgery is appropriate for people who are seeking an improvement in their appearance and who are realistic in their expectations as to what the surgery can accomplish.

Someone who is looking for perfection or expects a transforming miracle is not a good candidate. Cosmetic surgery can increase self-confidence and esteem, but it is not the solution for all of life's problems.

Am I a good candidate for cosmetic surgery?

This is a question that can be answered only after a consultation with your physician. You should be:

  • A healthy nonsmoker
  • Within twenty pounds of your ideal weight
  • Not going through major life stress
  • Motivated by internal desires to look better

To learn how to schedule a consultation, please visit the Steps to Working with the Aesthetic Surgery Center section.

Am I too old for cosmetic surgery?

Improvements in appearance can be made at any age. As you get older, the changes do not last as long and they may not be as dramatic. It is important that at any age serious medical conditions or poorly controlled medical conditions may make it unsafe to have cosmetic surgery.

Are there risks involved?

Every surgical procedure, no matter how simple, entails some degree of risk and the possibility of complications. These risks should not be taken lightly. Fortunately in cosmetic surgery, complications seldom occur and are usually amenable to treatment.

You should be aware of the risks and make an educated decision for surgery. If you have concerns, please discuss them during your initial consultation. To learn how to schedule a consultation, please visit the Steps to Working with the Aesthetic Surgery Center section.

I'm planning to have more than one procedure done at the same time. Are additional services available?

Just as aesthetic surgery can range from simple to complex, so can pre-operative and post-operative planning.

To help make your experience as easy, worry-free and comfortable as possible, we will gladly assist in arranging a variety of helpful services which can ease your mind and speed your recovery. Options include professional in-home care, in-home medical beds and other options.

With an at-your-service approach, we're glad to make other accommodations as well - just ask your patient coordinator and we'll do our best to meet virtually any pre- or post-operative request. Simply, our goal is to provide the best possible service and accommodations to make your entire experience as easy and comfortable as possible.

Are transportation services available?

Whether you seek peace of mind, a bit of luxury, complete privacy or even a bit of an escape, we offer several services that make the logistics of your surgery worry-free. With a professional driver, a comfortable town car or SUV can conveniently and safely transport you to or from your surgery or to any post-operative appointments.

Option 1: Lincoln Town Car. Accommodates up to three passengers at a cost of $50 per one-way trip, anywhere in Dane County.*

Option 2: Cadillac Escalade. Accommodates up to five passengers at a cost of $60 per one-way trip, anywhere in Dane County.*

* A $25 surcharge applies outside of Dane County.

Are hotel accommodations available?

Whether you seek peace of mind, a bit of luxury, complete privacy or even a bit of an escape, we offer several services that make the logistics of your surgery worry-free. We have arranged special pricing and packages exclusively for our patients. Select from the following Madison-area hotels:

Downtown Madison
Hilton (9 East Wilson Street)
Sheraton (706 John Nolen Drive)

West Madison/Middleton (near the Dean Clinic - Aesthetic Surgery Center)
Courtyard by Marriott (2266 Deming Way, Middleton)
Hilton Garden Inn (1801 Deming Way, Middleton)
Homewood Suites by Hilton (479 Commerce Drive, Madison)
Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott (8212 Greenway Boulevard, Middleton)

I am not from Madison or Wisconsin, how does this affect me?

In addition to the hotel accommodations and transportation options discussed on this page, we offer many other services that could assist you before and after surgery. Talk with us about virtually any pre- or post-operative request—we gladly provide assistance and make arrangements. Simply, our goal is to provide the best possible service and accommodations to make your entire experience as easy and comfortable as possible.

What are the costs?

The charges for surgical procedures vary with each surgery and the complexity of the problem. Since cosmetic surgery is an elective procedure, fees are payable in advance.

What payment plan options do you offer?

Don't let finances stand in the way of achieving your aesthetic goals. We work with CareCredit, a national leader in elective surgery financing, to provide our clients with affordable no-interest or low-interest extended payment plans.

Will insurance pay for any part of the surgery?

As a general rule, insurance will not pay for operations that are strictly for cosmetic purposes. Occasionally, insurance will pay for part of a cosmetic procedure if it improves function by relieving symptoms such as:

  • Restricted vision
  • Impaired breathing
  • Back and shoulder ache due to heavy breasts
  • Separation of the abdominal muscles resulting from multiple pregnancies

We recommend you discuss your personal situation during your initial consultation. To learn how to schedule a consultation, please visit the Steps to Working with the Aesthetic Surgery Center section.

Do I need to have insurance through Dean Health Plan?

No. As many procedures are not covered by insurance, the Aesthetic Surgery Center welcomes all insurance coverage including Dean Health Plan.

How long will cosmetic surgery results last?

The results are usually long lasting (approximately five to ten years) depending on the procedure. Sun exposure, weight gain or loss, aging and pregnancy will reduce the longevity of surgical results. To maintain the best result, it is important that you avoid sun exposure and drastic weight changes.
