Common Questions

I am not insured

Do I need an insurance agent to enroll in your new plans?

  • If you choose to purchase a plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace or directly through us you will not need an agent. If you already have an agent or plan to find one, you may still work with them and purchase a plan with their assistance.

How does my plan change when I renew my current plan?

  • If you renew before the end of 2014, your plan can remain the same until your renewal date in 2015. For example, if your anniversary renewal date is August 1, you can renew your plan on that date in 2014 and it will remain the same until August 1, 2015. To save money you may want to consider renewing before December 2013. Any plan renewals in 2014 will be required to be compliant with the provisions in the Affordable Care Act.

  • In November, the White House and Wisconsin's OCI have approved small group and individual policy holders an option allowing them to keep their current non Affordable Care Act (ACA)-compliant plan at their renewal month in 2014.This option only affects in-force policy holders that were effective on October 1, 2013 and have a scheduled policy renewal month between January 1 2014 and October 1 2014.
Individual policy holders with renewal dates between January 1 2014 and October 1 2014 will receive a communication automatically renewing them on their pre-ACA plan. They will receive available plan buy down options and rates for these plans.

Individuals who have not received a renewal notice (March through October, 2014) will be sent a communication automatically renewing them on their pre-ACA plan, displaying pre-ACA renewal buy down options and offering any additional federal or state required options or information

Can my employees choose to shop on the Marketplace

  • Yes, all individuals may shop for insurance on the Individual Marketplace.
However, if you as the employer offer coverage that meets the ACA’s standard for affordability and minimum essential coverage, the individual purchasing coverage through the Marketplace would not be eligible for premium subsidies.  This is the case even if they meet the financial eligibility criteria for the subsidy. Nor are you responsible for paying any portion of their premium.

What notification do I need to provide to my employees about the Marketplace?

  • You must provide notices to your employees about their health insurance options.  You can find more information about the requirements, including the model language to be used, at www.dol.gov/ebsa/healthreform.

  • Small groups who have already received January and February renewals will continue their migration to an ACA policy.  Small groups will have the option to move back to a pre-ACA policy, and we will provide pre-ACA options to these groups upon request. We will be sending communication about the option for renewal to the pre-ACA plan in December, along with instructions of how to notify us of the request to change back to their pre-ACA plan.

For small groups that have not yet received notices (March through October), our intent is to automatically renew them on a pre-ACA options, and displaying pre-ACA renewal buy- down options and offering any additional federal or state required options or information.

I am an insurance agent

Do I need to do anything special to be certified with your insurance company and your plans on the Marketplace?

  • In order to sell our products in the Marketplace and receive compensation, an agent must comply with all state requirements for licensing, appointment and market conduct. In addition to maintaining an active appointment with our company, an agent must also provide us with their Federally Facilitated Marketplace (FFM) User ID and National Producer Number (NPN) so that they may be compensated for their services on the Marketplace.

What course/training do I need and where can that be taken?

  • The registration process for agents includes the completion of courses, exams and Marketplace Agreements that occur on the Medicare Learning Network (MLN). Once this requirement has been met, an agent can then establish a FFM User ID by verifying their identity on the CMS Enterprise Portal.
