Healthcare Fraud Awareness
Special Investigative Unit (SIU)
The Special Investigative Unit is responsible for protecting corporate assets through investigations and proactive research of billing practices involving suspected fraudulent or abusive claims.
This web page is designed to provide education about what Fraud and Abuse are and how it affects everyone involved in health care; Dean Health Plan, internal staff, groups, members, agents, providers, etc.
SIU staff receive Health Care Fraud related training provided by experts from many organizations. In addition to other organizations, training includes programs through The National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association (NHCAA), John E. Reid and Associate's Reid Technique of Interviewing and Interrogation, Health Insurance Association of America (HIAA), and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).
SIU staff work closely with internal staff, colleagues from other insurance carriers, and local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. Some of the law enforcement agencies include local police departments, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, all state regulation and licensing boards, U.S. Attorney's Office, Internal Revenue Service, and U.S. Postal Inspectors.
