Plan Ahead for Appointments

Some immunizations require several weeks prior to travel for full effectiveness, so try to make an appointment six to eight weeks prior to departure. If you’ve missed that timeline, it’s still a good idea to make a travel medicine appointment before you travel abroad.

Your appointment will include a detailed review of your itinerary, your medical history, current medications, allergies, prior immunizations and previous travel experience to help you avoid travel-related illness.

Things to remember:

• We like to see patients 6-8 weeks prior to their trip, but better late than never!
• Please bring any immunization records that you have with you to the appointment.
• Please bring your trip itinerary with you if possible so that we can make the most appropriate recommendations for vaccines and prescriptions.

The Travel Medicine consultation visit usually lasts 30 minutes to one hour depending on the number and types of vaccines that a patient receives.
