The Aesthetic Surgery Center / FAQs
Who should have cosmetic surgery?
Cosmetic surgery is appropriate for people seeking an improvement in their appearance and are realistic in their expectations as to what the surgery can accomplish. Someone who is looking for perfection or expects a transforming miracle is not a good candidate. Cosmetic surgery can increase self-confidence and esteem, but it is not the solution for all life's problems.
Am
I a good candidate for cosmetic surgery?
This is a question that can be answered only after a consultation with your physician. You should be a healthy nonsmoker, within twenty pounds of your ideal weight, not going through major life stress and motivated by internal desires to look better.
Am I too old to have cosmetic surgery?
Improvements in appearance can be made at any age. As you get older, the changes do not last as long and they may not be as dramatic. It is important that at any age serious medical conditions or poorly controlled medical conditions may make it unsafe to have cosmetic surgery
What are the costs?
The charges for surgical procedures vary with each operation and the complexity of the problem. Since cosmetic surgery is an elective procedure, fees are payable in advance.

Will insurance pay for any part of the surgery?
As a general rule, insurance will not pay for operations that are strictly for cosmetic purposes. Occasionally, insurance will pay for part of a cosmetic procedure if it improves function by relieving symptoms such as restricted vision, impaired breathing, back and shoulder ache due to heavy breasts, separation of the abdominal muscles resulting from multiple pregnancies, etc.
How long will cosmetic surgery results last?
The results are usually long lasting (approximately five to ten years) depending on the procedure. Sun exposure, weight gain or loss, aging and pregnancy will reduce the longevity of surgical results. To maintain the best result, it is important that you avoid sun exposure and drastic weight changes.
Are there risks involved?
Every surgical procedure, no matter how simple, entails some degree of risk and the possibility of complications. These risks should not be taken lightly. Fortunately in cosmetic surgery, complications seldom occur and are usually amenable to treatment. You should be aware of the risks and make an educated decision for surgery.
