Free Screening Offers Help for Depression Sufferers
October is Depression Awareness Month
MADISON – Nearly 21 million Americans will suffer from depression this year and millions more will be affected by a loved one’s struggle with the illness. More than just feeling “blue”, depression is a serious condition with symptoms that interfere with everyday activities. Unfortunately, only one-third of those who suffer from depression will seek help, though many effective treatments are available.
In recognition of Depression Awareness Month, Dean Foundation and Dean Health System are proud to offer free depression screenings and educational presentations during the week of October 8, 2007. Free, confidential screenings will be held Thursday, October 11, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm at Dean West Clinic, 752 N. High Point Road in Madison.
In addition, two free presentations will be held at Dean Clinic, 1313 Fish Hatchery Road in Madison. “When Antidepressants Don’t Work: Finding a Treatment that Does” on Tuesday, October 9 at 6:00 pm and “Don’t Suffer in Silence: Understanding Depression and the Treatment Options” on Thursday, October 11 at 6:00 pm. Screenings will be available for one hour following each presentation.
Mental health professionals will be available to discuss the screening results and provide referrals to local treatment and support resources. Reservations are not required for the screening, but are recommended for the presentations.
