Dr. Kaufman named Chief Medical Officer

Mark A. Kaufman, MD, who has provided 25 years of clinical and administrative service to Dean Health System (DHS), has been named Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Dr. Kaufman will fill the position previously held by Donald Logan, MD, who retired last September.

Dr. Kaufman is currently DHS Board Chairman and Chief Medical Officer at Dean Health Insurance. He will be stepping down from these roles on March 6th to assume his new position. As Dean Health System CMO, Dr. Kaufman will be responsible for clinical programs, quality improvement and physician leadership.

“After an extensive national search, and a process that involved interviews with many stellar candidates, it became clear to our search committee that the best national candidate for our CMO position was right here at home,” said Craig E. Samitt, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer. “Dr. Kaufman is an exceptional leader, a respected clinician and manager, and a very skilled strategist and operational thinker. Under Dr. Kaufman's clinical leadership, we are confident that our organization's future will be very bright,” he added.

Dr. Kaufman joined Dean in 1982 as an Internal Medicine physician.
