US HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES SECRETARY VISITS DEAN
MADISON, WI– Michael Leavitt, US Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary, visited Dean’s East Clinic in Madison recently to view a demonstration of EpicCare, the electronic medical record (EMR); as well as MyChart, which allows a patient to communicate electronically with a provider.
Mr. Leavitt requested the demonstration while in Madison discussing quality improvement through the EMR, as well as engaging patients in decisions regarding their own health care.
The EMR is now being used in all primary care areas at Dean Clinic locations and is currently being introduced into the various specialties and subspecialties.
The demonstration was conducted by Larry Elfman, MD and Robert Gilbert, MD who are lead physicians in the implementation of the EMR and MyChart at Dean.
Mr. Leavitt was accompanied by other HHS staff as well as representatives of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
