Free Screening Offers Help for Sufferers of Anxiety and Depressive Illness
MADISON, WI – Nearly a quarter of Americans will suffer from an anxiety disorder at some time in their lives, but just one-third of those affected will seek treatment for their illness. To build awareness of anxiety disorders, their symptoms and the effective treatments available, Dean Foundation and Dean Health System are proud to take part in National Anxiety Disorders Screening Day on Wednesday, May 2, 2007.
Free, confidential screenings will take place on May 2, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Dean West Clinic, 752 N. High Point Rd. in Madison and 7 – 7:30 p.m. at St. Mary ’s Hospital, Bay 4, 707 S. Mills St. in Madison.
Mental health professionals will discuss the screening results and discuss referrals to local treatment and support resources. Educational brochures and information will be available. Reservations are not required for the screenings, which will be done on a first come, first served basis.
Prior to the evening screenings, Dean Health Psychiatrist Bhawani Ballamudi, MD will present a free educational program, “Anxious About Your Anxiety? What’s Normal and What’s Not” from 6 - 7 p.m. Reservations are recommended for the presentation, call (608) 827-2321.
Individuals who suffer from an anxiety disorder experience a variety of symptoms that can include spontaneous panic attacks, endless checking and rechecking their actions, persistent and uncontrollable worry, and anxiety in social situations. Anxiety disorders include: Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Social Phobia, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
“Abnormal anxiety is a serious public health concern and we hope that National Anxiety Disorders Screening Day will guide individuals to the effective treatments available,” said Leslie H. Taylor, MD, Executive Director of Dean Foundation.
If you cannot attend in person, please call 1-800-844-6015 during regular business hours for a telephone screening.
