What is the Dean Memory Assessment Center?

Your visit with a multi-disciplinary group of providers (including a neurologist, neuropsychologist and registered nurse) includes multiple diagnostic tools to determine whether or not you have a memory problem that requires further medical treatment or follow-up.

Memory AssessmentWe can help support you with:

What can I expect at the appointment?
Each appointment will last approximately two hours. The first part of the visit includes a meeting between the patient and a neuropsychologist, while at the same time the patient’s family members or caretakers take part in a separate meeting with a specially-trained nurse. These meetings include a series of questions and various assessment tools to learn more from you and your family about the memory loss you’ve been experiencing. This information will then be passed on to the neurologist who will conduct the second part of the appointment.

The neurologist will start by discussing your history with you and conducting a physical exam. He will then have a family conference to collect more details and determine whether or not you need medication or follow up care. The doctor can also help counsel you on potential lifestyle changes, practical behavioral strategies, prescriptions for medications, and/or referrals to community agencies
