Regional President/CEO of Hospital Operations
Damond W. Boatwright, FACHE, joined SSM Health in Wisconsin as Regional President/CEO of Hospital Operations in February of 2014. In this role, Damond is responsible for overseeing all hospital operations within SSM Health's integrated care delivery network in the Wisconsin Region including SSM Health St. Clare Hospital - Baraboo, SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital - Madison and SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital - Janesville. SSM Health is a St. Louis-based health care system which provides high-quality and compassionate care at hospitals, clinics and nursing homes in Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri and Oklahoma.
Boatwright is originally from Charleston, S.C. He graduated from The Citadel with a degree in Business Administration and was also a scholarship football player at the military college in Charleston, S.C. Afterward, Boatwright earned his Master’s Degree in Health Administration and Health Sciences from the Medical University of South Carolina - Charleston and went on to complete a health services management fellowship at Duke University Medical Center.
Prior to his arrival at SSM Health, Damond Boatwright served as CEO of Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Kansas. A 350-bed acute-care hospital and one of the busiest in the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area. Boatwright helped shape patient-centered care delivery there from October 2011 to February 2014. It remains one of the nation's top performing hospitals on key quality measures by The Joint Commission, the nation's leading accreditor of health care organizations.
From 2007 - 2011, Boatwright served as the CEO of Lee’s Summit Medical Center, part of HCA Midwest Health System in Missouri. During Boatwright’s leadership, The Joint Commission also named Lee’s Summit Medical Center as one of the nation’s top performing hospitals on key quality measures. He is dedicated and passionate about working with physicians and staff to make an impact in the patient experience and offer an unmatched continuum of care.
Boatwright started his health care career with the Medical University of South Carolina in 1995. During his 14 years within the HCA Healthcare System he has served in various capacities including Associate Administrator I/II, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer in several of its Hospitals.
Mr. Boatwright is looking forward to being more actively involved in the local communities and at the state level with the Wisconsin Chapter of American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). Through SSM Health Dean Medical Group, he is also a member of the Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC), the state’s chamber of commerce and largest trade association.
In 2010, he was named to the national list of “Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know” in Becker’s Hospital Review and was the recipient of Modern Healthcare’s prestigious “Up and Comer” award in 2009.
Most important to him are his faith and family. Damond spends much of his time with his wife Dr. Makeba Williams Boatwright (OB/GYN), their son Damond Jeremiah (DJ) and daughter Shelby. On occasion, you might also catch Damond golfing, reading, jogging and cooking. Damond participates in several cooking contests each year as a certified judge through the Kansas City Barbecue Society.
