St. Mary’s Hospital Receives 2014 Press Ganey Beacon of Excellence AwardSM and Guardian of Excellence AwardSM for Consistently Achieving Excellence in Patient Experience

November 4, 2014 (Madison, Wis.) – St. Mary’s Hospital has been named a 2014 Beacon of Excellence and Guardian of Excellence Award winner by Press Ganey Associates, Inc.

The Press Ganey Beacon of Excellence Award recognizes the nation’s top-performing health care facilities that have achieved and consistently maintained high levels of excellence in Patient Experience for the past three years. The recognition is awarded annually to 45 organizations, representing the three top-performing organizations by category. Press Ganey partners with more than 11,000 health care facilities, including more than half of all U.S. hospitals, to measure and improve the patient experience.

Additionally, the Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award is presented to health care facilities who consistently sustained performance in the top 5% of all Press Ganey clients for each reporting period during the course of one year.

“These awards represent the dedication of our staff, physicians and volunteers to providing excellent care for our patients and their families. We are grateful their exceptional work is being recognized by Press Ganey,” said St. Mary’s Hospital President Dr. Frank Byrne.

Every member of the St. Mary’s team understands their important role in patient satisfaction, and all are empowered to make a difference. Hourly rounding, room service dining, hospitality services, and signage posted throughout the hospital indicating “Quiet Please. Healing in Progress,” are just a few examples of the processes in place to create and deliver an exceptional experience for patients and families.

Scores reflecting the patient experience are publicly posted throughout the hospital. This level of transparency about patient satisfaction shows St. Mary’s commitment to an exceptional experience.

“I am grateful for, and inspired by, the passion for excellence demonstrated by our team in meeting the needs of the patients and families we are privileged to serve,” said Dr. Byrne.

"We are proud to partner with St. Mary’s Hospital,” said Patrick T. Ryan, CEO of Press Ganey. “This award is a testament to their unwavering commitment to reduce patient suffering and deliver more patient-centered care. St. Mary’s Hospital’s exemplary performance is truly setting the industry standard, benefiting patients and advancing the quality of care in the Madison area.”

St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo -- St. Mary’s Hospital’s sister hospital -- is also a 2014 Press Ganey award winner. St. Clare is being recognized as a 2014 Guardian of Excellence Award winner for both Clinical Quality and Physician Engagement.
