Dean Physician Named to Public Health Council

Dr. Alan Schwartzstein honored with appointment to the council

Gov. Scott Walker has appointed Dr. Alan Schwartzstein to the Wisconsin Public Health Council. Dr. Schwartzstein is float physician for the Dean Clinic Family Medicine Division.

Created in 2003, the Council’s primary function is to advise the Department of Health Services, Governor, Legislature and the public on the progress of the state’s public health plan, as well as to coordinate a response to public health emergencies.

“Dr. Alan Schwartzstein is a dedicated and qualified physician, with more than 25 years of service to Wisconsin,” Gov. Walker said. “His extensive professional interest in public health makes Dr. Schwartzstein an ideal candidate for the council, and his many years of involvement on the American Academy of Family Physicians’ Commission on Health of the Public and Science, for which he currently serves as chair, demonstrates his willingness to take on a leadership role, as well as his commitment to improving the quality of care offered to the citizens of Wisconsin.”

Dr. Schwartzstein completed a bachelor’s degree in psychology, magna cum laude, from Tufts University, and received his M.D. degree from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He is in the process of completing his Masters in Public Health from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. In addition to serving on several medical societies and academies, Dr. Schwartzstein has received numerous awards for his dedication to the community, and is one of only three recipients of Dean Clinic’s Community Service Award.
