Dean Clinic and SSM Health Welcome New Wisconsin Regional Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Larry Hegland appointed to newly-created position of SSM Regional Chief Medical Officer in Wisconsin

Madison, Wis. - Dean Clinic and SSM Health are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Larry Hegland as SSM Regional Chief Medical Officer in Wisconsin.

In this newly-created position, Dr. Hegland will oversee regional quality, safety and innovation, as well as infrastructure for St. Mary’s Hospital, St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital, St. Clare Hospital and all Dean Clinic sites. He will also lead in the implementation of quality strategy, outcomes and best practices throughout the region.

Previously, Dr. Hegland spent 10 years with Ministry Health Care in Wausau, Wisconsin. His roles included serving as Chief Medical Officer for Ministry Saint Clare’s Hospital in Weston, Wisconsin, Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center in Merrill, Wisconsin, and the Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Weston. In addition, he was Ministry’s Medical Director over Recovery Audit Contractors. He is nationally recognized as an expert in the area of compliant clinical documentation and audit appeals.

Prior to joining Ministry Health Care, Dr. Hegland worked as Vice President of Medical Affairs at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Delaware. He received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota and trained as an anesthesiologist at Northwestern University. He also holds a degree in Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University.

Dr. Hegland begins his new position on January 26.
