Dean Family Medicine Physician Discusses Diabetes Prevention and Maintenance During Walk With a Doc Event

Madison – On Wednesday, April 17 F. Bradford Meyers, MD, will participate in the City of Madison’s Walk with a Doc program. Dr. Meyers is a family medicine physician at Dean Clinic – East. During the evening walk through Tenney Park, Dr. Meyers will discuss Diabetes prevention and management.

When it comes to treating and preventing Diabetes, Dr. Meyers says physical activity is an important part of the equation.

“Physical activity, such as walking, can improve your glucose metabolism, decrease your weight and improve your general health and well-being,” says Dr. Meyers.

During the educational discussion, Dr. Meyers will focus on how being overweight can contribute to Diabetes, which common medications are used to treat Diabetes and how they work, and the need for Diabetic education and regular follow-ups and continued monitoring for Diabetic patients.

Walk with a Doc is a free, local program for area participants interested in bettering their health one step at a time. Walks are held monthly in the fall and winter and bi-monthly in the spring and summer. Each Walk with a Doc program is held at a local park and led by a local health care provider.

Each walk lasts approximately 30-45 minutes. A short five minute talk led by Dr. Meyers will take place before the walk, followed by a short discussion at the end. People of all ages and abilities are encouraged to attend. Attendees are also encouraged to invite family members, friends and neighbors along on the walks.
