Dean Physician Named Family Medicine Educator of the Year

Dr. Aaron Dunn Recognized for His Service to Family Medicine Education

The Wisconsin Academy of Family Physicians (WAFP) is honoring Aaron A. Dunn, MD with the 2013 Family Medicine Educator of the Year Award.

“Dr. Dunn has been instrumental in increasing the medical student and resident education and support by our physicians in our practice and at the hospital,” says Cathryn Kaiser, MD, Retired Assistant Medical Director of Quality Improvement for St. Mary’s/Dean Ventures, Inc. “His enthusiasm for this endeavor has been contagious and has drawn in his partners.”

Outside of Dr. Dunn’s clinical and teaching work at Dean Clinic – Mineral Point, Dean  Clinic – Dodgeville and Upland Hills Health Hospital, he also gives of his time to the community. Dr. Dunn is the founder and medical director of Community Connections Free Clinic which serves the uninsured in Iowa County. He has supervised medical students at the Salvation Army Medical Clinic in Madison and founded Verona Senior Connections a group of Verona Clinic staff and residents that organizes health maintenance talks for Verona Senior Center patrons.

Dr. Dunn further gives of his time and expertise as the team physician for Mineral Point High School and is a local Community Clinical Preceptor supervising and training medical and nurse practitioner students and residents in Family Medicine.

“Thank you, I am very humbled and honored,” said Dunn when he was notified of the award.

The Family Medicine Educator of the Year award recognizes physicians who provide outstanding and comprehensive family medicine education to medical students, residents and new physicians. Award recipients also demonstrate a balance between their career and personal life. The WAFP 2013 award will be presented to Dr. Dunn on February 6, 2014, at the Preceptor Appreciation Luncheon in Waukesha.
