Dean Foundation Reading Clinic Expands to Help More Struggling Readers

Reading Clinic Services Now Available in Stoughton

Dean Foundation Reading Clinic continues to open new locations in southern Wisconsin. Personalized one-on-one lessons are now available to kids in Stoughton.

The Dean Foundation Reading Clinic is an innovative program that helps children who suffer from many different types of reading disabilities. In fact, about 20-percent of children struggle with reading, but only a small number of them actually qualify for specialized help in school.

There are a number of directives that help make the Dean Foundation Reading Clinic unique and effective:
• An in-depth reading evaluation to determine the cause of the reading difficulty
• A lesson plan specifically created for each student based on his or her individual needs
• One-on-one tutoring sessions for students and their parents/caregivers
• Consultations with the student’s teachers
• Training for parents so teaching and learning can continue at home

The Dean Foundation Reading Clinic is run by Al Arnold, MS and Dan Gustafson, PhD.  Al Arnold is a former reading teacher, principal and university instructor. Dr. Dan Gustafson is a neuropsychologist who conducts in-depth evaluations of dyslexia and other learning problems.
The clinic is endorsed by Dr. Maryanne Wolf, one of the top reading remediation experts in the world. Dr. Wolf is the Director of the Center for Reading and Language Research at Tufts University and a research scientist at the Harvard Medical School.

Reading Clinic Founder, Al Arnold says, "Our program is seeing a tremendous response from the community and we will continue working to make it as convenient as possible for the people who can use our help."

Two tutors are available in Stoughton. Lessons are being held in the Ridge Room inside Stoughton Hospital.

Along with the new Stoughton location, Reading Clinic lessons are also offered in Portage, Madison's east side and Middleton. For more information call (608) 886-0555 or visit the Reading Clinic section on Dean.org.
