A privately held Wisconsin corporation, Dean has been a physician-owned and physician-governed organization since its inception. Ninety-five percent of Dean is owned by physician-shareholders. The remaining five percent is owned by the SSM Health Care, a St. Louis-based order which also owns several hospitals nationwide including St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin and St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo, Wisconsin.

Dean Clinic Locations
The original "Dean Clinic" began in 1904 in Madison, when Dr. Joseph Dean opened a small downtown practice. Today, Dean Clinic comprises a multi-specialty network of clinics that provide exceptional primary and specialized medical care in central locations throughout Dane, Rock and Walworth Counties.
Dean/St. Mary's Regional Clinics
St. Mary's/Dean Ventures, Inc. (SMDV) was formed in 1989 as a joint venture between St. Mary's Hospital and Dean Clinic to create a network of local community clinics linked to advanced specialty care in Madison.
Today, there are more than 30 Dean/St Mary's regional and eye network clinics providing convenient care to outlying communities in southern Wisconsin, and three St. Mary's/Dean Day Surgery Centers in Madison and Janesville providing outpatient surgery and care.
Davis Duehr Dean
Davis Duehr Dean ophthalmologists and optometrists are part of the Dean network, providing specialty eye care throughout southern Wisconsin. They make up the ophthalmology and optometry departments and full-service optical stores of Dean.

The Dean Foundation for Health, Research and Education, Inc. is the non-profit research and education entity of Dean. Dean Foundation conducts clinical studies and clinical drug trials, health services research, outcome management studies, and population based research within the Foundation's Psychiatric Department and in partnership with Dean Clinic physicians.
The Foundation manages and administers the Dean Institutional Review Board which ensures that human subjects who participate in clinical studies are provided complete information about the purposes of each study, the design and procedures, potential benefits, risks, and alternative treatments, while ensuring participant confidentiality.
Dean Foundation also coordinates Dean's Passenger Safety Program within the community, and helps provide access to health care through neighborhood based clinics serving medically under-served families and their children.
