BSP Free Clinic Expands Hours

BSP Free Clinic Volunteers Working To Keep Pace with Demand

The BSP Free Clinic, a specialty care clinic operated by Dean Foundation for the uninsured and medically underserved, has seen steady growth since opening its doors twelve years ago. In June, BSP expanded patient hours to include an additional afternoon per month.

BSP Volunteer Medical Director Tom Hirsch, MD says despite the Affordable Care Act, he anticipates there will continue to be cracks in the system that will drive patient demand for years to come.  “As we attract more clinician and nurse volunteers, as well as financial support, we will continue to expand BSP hours this year to care for more patients.”

The BSP Free Clinic is currently staffed by 41 regular volunteer clinicians representing 19 medical and surgical specialties, along with an additional 30 nurses, interpreters and technicians. The clinic is supported by its generous donors and volunteers, including Dean Clinic and other area healthcare providers.

For more information on volunteer, referral or donation opportunities, contact clinic manager Kathy Williams at (608) 827-2308.
