DeanCare Gold Rated as 5-Star Medicare Plan by CMS
MADISON Wis. (October 12, 2012) – The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that Dean Health Plan received CMS’s five-star rating in 2013—the highest possible quality ranking for private Medicare insurance plans and Medicare Advantage plans.
The CMS ranking system gives an objective assessment of a health plan’s quality and service and helps cut through the clutter when choosing Medicare coverage. Medicare ranks how well health plans perform on more than 50 measures, which are grouped into different categories:
- Staying Healthy: Screenings, Tests and Vaccines
- Managing Chronic (Long-Term) Conditions
- Plan Responsiveness and Care
- Member Complaints, Problems Getting Services and Choosing to Leave the Plan
- Health Plan Customer Service
Medicare-eligible residents can use the rating as a deciding factor as they choose their plan options during this year annual enrollment period which runs from October 15 to December 7. In addition to making it easier to compare plans, the Star system also allows members to switch from a Medicare Advantage Plan to any plan with a CMS five-star rating once during a calendar year if they choose.
