Dean Clinic Physician to Help Lead Wisconsin Academy of Family Physicians

Brad Meyers, MD to serve as WAFP President in 2012

The Wisconsin Academy of Family Physicians (WAFP) has announced that Brad Meyers, MD of Jefferson, WI has been elected to serve as President for 2012. The election of officers was held at the WAFP’s 63rd Annual Meeting on February 1st in Waukesha. WAFP represents more than 2,500 dedicated family physicians, residents and medical students throughout Wisconsin.

Dr. Meyers was in an independent solo practice for 20 years with his wife Gretchen Geist, RN, MSN. Currently he practices in the Family Medicine Department at Dean Clinic-East in Madison.  He earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University and completed a residency in Family Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. A Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), Meyers is an active member of the WAFP having served on the Board of Directors for several years and as the chair for the Legislative and Advocacy Committee. He is a Major in the Wisconsin Air National Guard serving a disaster response mission in the CERF-P with the 115th Air Guard Wing based at Truax Field in Madison.

Dr. Meyers will lead the WAFP during the next year with the focus on building a strong primary care workforce recognizing that many players contribute to safe, effective, efficient delivery of primary care.  As leaders of the largest single organization providing primary care in the state, Meyers and the WAFP Board of Directors are convening a Primary Care Summit in 2012.

“A summit is defined as ‘the highest peak, the topmost level obtainable,” says Dr. Meyers. “No less than a ‘summit’ will suffice to bring together leaders from around the state to build and strengthen an alliance that promotes and advocates for Primary Care throughout Wisconsin.”

Dr. Meyers joins four other Wisconsin family physicians in leading the WAFP’s initiatives for 2012:

  • President-Elect: Suzanne Gehl, MD of Mequon
  • First Vice President: David Eitrheim, MD, of Menomonie
  • Second Vice President: Mark Thompson, MD of New Glarus
  • Treasurer: Shanyn Lancaster, MD of Germantown
