Our Team in Action

Educating Kids About Leading a Healthier Life

Dean Clinic and the Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Madison to educate kids about leading a healthier life.

Dean doctors Danielle Gindlesberger, MD and F. Bradford Meyers, MD both attended the events to share their message about staying active and eating healthy. Their messages were clear, “Drink lots of water, stay active, eat healthy and get a good night’s sleep.”

This year Dean Clinic staff also hosted one of the activity stations – talking to the kids about Sugar in your Drink. Kids had the opportunity to compare the amount of sugar in common drinks like Mountain Dew, apple juice, skim milk, Gatorade, chocolate milk, lemonade and water.

Many were surprised to find out that drinks like lemonade and juice, beverages that are often promoted as healthier options when compared to soda, still have a ton of sugar in them!

The group finished each session talking about water as the BEST option, drinking at least 8 glasses a day, and working to drink other beverages in moderation.

Dean & St. Mary's Support the MDA Tub Run

Dean & St. Mary’s were proud to support the MDA Tub Run as the naming sponsor of the 18th annual event in Janesville. The event was held in June 2012.

The ride had more than 850 riders and raised more than $135,000 for Muscular Dystrophy. Dean Riders were able to help lead the ride and proudly fly the Dean flag! In addition to the Tub Run, participants were able to enjoy a Poker Run, a pork BBQ, a steak dinner, fabulous items through a silent auction and raffle, and live music.

Thanks to all of the riders, donors, volunteers and staff that helped make this event a success! Also a big thank you to the local law enforcement for helping to keep everyone safe during this busy fundraiser!

Dean and St. Mary’s Show Up to Support the March for Babies in a BIG Way!

The Dean & St. Mary’s team was over 200 strong on Saturday, May 5 as the group led the local March for Babies in Madison.

Through online fundraising, sponsorship and donation buckets at many local clinics, Dean is proud to support the future of healthy babies with more than $20,000 this year alone! Thank you to those who walked, fundraised and donated to this important cause. For more photos, visit Dean's Facebook page.

Dean Clinic Africa

A group of five Dean Clinic providers recently joined eleven University of Chicago undergraduate students and three other medical professionals on a medical brigade to Central Region Ghana as part of a program called Global Medical Brigades.

Philip Bain, MD, Noelle Dowling, MD, Timothy Lechmeier, MD, Lori Brown, PA-C, and Jeff Welsch, PA-C worked closely with the small community of Asokwa in central Ghana, providing medical care during a three-day clinic and public health education day. They saw nearly 700 patients in the clinic and met with many members of the 600-person farming community.

Global Brigades is a student-led international organization that sponsors brigades involving medical, dental, architectural, water, public health and microfinance programs in Panama, Honduras, and Ghana.

Dean Clinic Supports Healthy Habits

Dean Clinic, Dean Health Plan and St. Mary’s Hospital teamed up with the Madison Children’s Museum for Healthy Habits week in April 2012.

The kids learned about helmet safety with “Crash Helmet,” proper hand washing with glow in the dark “germs” and how much sugar is in common drinks! Thanks to Dr. Laura Mendyk of Dean Clinic for joining us as a health expert. For more photos, check out Dean's Facebook page.

Dean Clinic Shows Their Muscles in Support of Patients

Dean employees all over South-central Wisconsin showed their muscles in March 2012 in support of all of the patients and families and community partners that are fighting diseases like cancer, epilepsy, diabetes and so many others. These photos were inspired by Zach Lederer. For more photos, check out Dean's Facebook page.

Our Key Partnerships

Dean is committed to improving the health of our community.

We are proud to support many organizations across our service area that share our mission of improving the health and quality of life in our community.

As part of the many not-for-profits Dean supports, we have aligned with a few organizations to provide additional year round support:

The United Way of Dane County

Dean is committed to supporting The United Way of Dane County and its seven agenda for change items, specifically focusing on children, health and partnerships. We believe that our mission of improving the health of our community can be better accomplished with great community partners like the United Way.

The American Red Cross – Badger Chapter

In early 2011, Dean joined together with The American Red Cross - Badger Chapter to strengthen their disaster relief program across south-central Wisconsin. We have committed to a three-year partnership to ensure that if families are displaced from their homes because of natural disasters, they have the resources they need to get back on their feet.

The March of Dimes

Dean & St. Mary’s are proud to be Presenting Sponsors of the March of Dimes and support their March for Babies and Signature Chefs Event each year. We believe in the mission of the March of Dimes and will continue to work until the day that all babies are born healthy.

Second Harvest

For more than 10 years Dean has partnered with NBC15 in the Second Harvest of Southern Wisconsin Share Your Holidays campaign. The Southern Wisconsin chapter of Second Harvest has been raising money and collecting food to aid hunger-relief programs in 16 southwestern Wisconsin counties for over 25 years. Each year Dean holds several events to raise money and collect food donations. In 2010, Dean raised enough money to provide more than 92,000 meals to those in need.

Breast Cancer Recovery

Breast Cancer Recovery was founded by Ann Haney, a former Dean Health Plan Vice President, and pledges to help women heal mind, body and spirit after breast cancer. Dean Health Plan is a founding contributor of the organization and continues to support this organization.
