Generous Gift from Rudy Family Benefits BSP Free Clinic

Dean Foundation and the Benevolent Specialists Project (BSP) Free Clinic are honored to accept a generous donation of $11,110 from the Rudy Family Trust on behalf of Dr. Ronald C. Rudy, a beloved orthopedic surgeon.

In high school, he was a renowned athlete on an undefeated Kenosha Red Devils squad (playing with NFL Hall-of-Famer Alan Ameche). After graduating from Marquette Medical School in 1959, Dr. Rudy served in the Navy as a medical officer. He started his practice in 1966 at the Dean Clinic, and would serve as a chairman of St. Mary's Hospital Medical Center's Department of Surgery and as an Associate Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at UW-Madison. After his retirement in 1996, he devoted time to the BSP Free Clinic. According to BSP Advisory Board member Dr. Timothy Lechmaier, Dr. Rudy was devoted to Army/Navy football games and telling funny stories, many of which were shared by his children to hysterical laughter at his funeral mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on Madison's west side.

Dr. Rudy died in January 2010 with his wife of 51 years, Perine "Petie" Rudy, by his side. Mrs. Rudy-who has an impressive history of serving the community-passed away in June 2016. She served on many boards, co-founded the first Frostiball, and was partner of the Valperine Art Gallery for 20 years.

Dean Foundation thanks the Rudy children, Paul, Peter and Analisa, for their thoughtful donation.

Understanding the Link Between Sleep and Dementia

As researchers, we are struggling with how to treat Alzheimer’s Disease (AD), as it is one of the greatest health challenges of the 21st century. This is a worldwide epidemic, with one in ten adults diagnosed over the age of 65. Despite the numbers and the devastating impact of the illness, there have been no new medications approved for the treatment of AD for over 10 years. Learn what Dr. Koplin and the Dean Foundation are doing in a new investigational Alzheimer's study.
